Sam Nolan loves football and her little brother, Josh. She’s focused on taking care of him since her mom mentally checked out after her dad died. The only other thing she’s concerned about is Number Eight-Eight, who is incredibly hot and completely off limits. He’s a Trojan and she’s a Skyhawk. The two schools are rivals on and off the football team.

But Tyler Kootz can’t stop thinking about the red-haired girl, who tackled him the first time they met. It’s forbidden, but he doesn’t care. Tyler wants to be closer to her. She’s stolen his attention and his heart.

Being together, makes taking extreme risks, and keeping their relationship a secret. If Sam’s cousin, Brad, were to find out she was a dating a Trojan, he’d flip. He plays for the Skyhawks and doesn’t think anyone should speak to a Trojan, let alone date one. Sneaking around, Sam and Tyler fall hard for each other, but it’s not perfect and it feels impossible at times to hide. They’ll have to keep hiding if they want to stay together.

First, I loved Tyler and his willingness to play Barbie’s with his little sister! Adorable! His dedication to his family was so sweet. Sam is so spunky and knows who she is, which I think is really important in a character. She’s not relying on Tyler, but is her own person and is super funny at times! I was a little bit lost in the beginning, but I grew to love Sam and Tyler’s relationship and their story. This is a Romeo and Juliet retelling that I will read over and over again. It’s not the tragic story we know, but it’s one we can love even more.

Secret Catch edition by Cassie Mae Jessica Salyer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Cassie Mae always brings a sweet story that makes you smile. I liked this one, Tyler and Sam were cute and for once it felt like I was reading about highschool kids. Stupid decisions, dramatic feelings. Some might call it instalove, but I felt it was more like, yeah, they are so young. It was not perfect, but it was enjoyable and cute. And I will continue to buy Cassie Mae's books without reading the blurbs, because I know I will like them. )
This has to be my favorite so far from Cassie Mae. I loved these characters and was completely invested emotionally. I had the hardest time putting the book down and couldn't stop smiling when I was done. My only complaint is that I wish I could see more from Tyler and Sam. I want to make sure they have a wonderful life and make adorable red headed babies!!!!
There's so much good stuff to say about this book.
Both authors did amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. The resemblence between Romeo and Juliet and this story is huge, but this is so much more modern and happy (thank god, or I would have died)!!

The only think that was making me not like it that much was the speed at which things started between Tyler and Sam, but I also understood that it was needed. This book was not about falling for each other, it was about keeping everything in secret because of the rivalry.

One other thing that I would like to see a little bit more was the evolution on Sam and her mother's relationship, but then again, the book was not supposed to be about that.

It's a sweet book, very entertaining and fun, and it really shows that true love can handle anything.
4.5 stars -- I'm really loving all these books loosely based on novels/plays/etc. And this one is no exception. I stress the term loosely, but at the same time this book had so many clever allusions (if that's the right word) to Romeo & Juliet....I seriously loved every time I came upon one! But I am most epically grateful that the ending deviated....otherwise I would be a weeping mess.

Seriously guys, these characters were just fantastic. Sam had the more "tragic" background I guess, so most of the character struggles were on her end. Her home-life was heartbreaking at times. And I thought her character handled it in a realistic way -- she was loving and awesome with Josh, but still heartbroken and a bit resentful of her mother internally. And I didn't blame her one bit. But at the same time she still remained so sassy and smart, and most of the time seemed very sure of herself. I LOVED the way she interacted with Tyler. I'm drawn to the shy girls naturally, but I find it eminently refreshing to read about a bolder girl who isn't afraid to go after the guy and tell him what she thinks and wants!

Tyler was like epic book boyfriend material. He was hilarious (though he wasn't always trying to be), he was romantic, and awkward, and just cheek squishingness. I loved watching him interact with EVERYONE he encountered -- from his hilarious large and boisterous family, to his friends, to Josh and the mini-footballers, to most especially Sam.

And that's where this book hits it out of the park -- Sam and Tyler together. Since the relationship has to remain a secret, most of the book is spent with just them alone together. But they are like every high school romance I wish really existed. Cute, funny, sexy, awkward, real. Yup, so much good stuff.

Even the secondary characters were enjoyable -- well, maybe not Sam's cousin quite as much, but at least he wasn't black & white evil and you could kind of see some growth in him. But Josh and Parker were epic little siblings. I tend to shy away from kids in books b/c I don't always feel they're portrayed realistically, but the parts with them were outstanding. And Sam's BFF Paige was actually a fantastic BFF.

And on one last final note -- the epilogue was amazeballs. I LOVE EPILOGUES. I really do. And this one was one of my favourites of all time. )
