The White Guns The Modern Naval Fiction Library Douglas Reeman Books
Reeman is the finest of the British WW II authors every bit as good as Nicholas Monsaratt's Cruel Sea. This book is almost gentle in how the main protagonist's story is told, but eventful and accurate enough. He is a fine and high principled person who does things for the right reasons. Hard not to like that.Decent character development and a very fine story - with a glimmer of realistic hope. Interesting thing is that some of the characters have believable amount of ambiguity. You have to imagine the ending for some. I would say this is one of his best books, but different.

The White Guns The Modern Naval Fiction Library Douglas Reeman Books Reviews
Have always thought highly of this author, and while this wasn't his best novel, it was still very good
A good read . Who would trust the Russians especially now in this climate with Donald Trump
I thought this book fair only. Reeman can be very good when he is in form, but this story lacks direction . It is at the very end of WW2, - and I suppose that's the problem.
It was a nice read. I'm going to miss him now that he's passed away. Interesting book about the Royal Navy in post-war Germany.
As the fighting in Europe winds down, the book's characters come to grips with what they will do after the war. Reman explores a variety of actions from those trying to profit to those trying to make a new life for themselves. Not all the subplots end happily, but the book reads like a realistic look at what veterans face when they consider separating from the service.
It isn't one of his better yarns. But I am travelling and it is enjoyable reading on my ; much better to have the electronic version and be spared the weight of hauling paperback books around. It is the study of what happens after WWII ends; a Brittish motor gunboat is assigned to the almost completely destroyed port of Kiel in German. The story focuses on the necessity of the Brittish crew to come to grips with their hatred of the defeated German foes. Good reading but not outstanding.
I liked this volume, because it covered the period just after World War II in Europe, so the perspective on naval operations was different than the destroyer chases of 1943. For fans of realistic naval fiction, rather than thrillers with improbable victories, this volume fills a gap in the 20th century timeline. I primarily used the Audible version, while shifting back and forth with Whispersync. It was great for a long distance drive.
